Quick Overview

The H.Upmann No.2 is one of Cuba's most popular vitola, a delicious medium Pyramid, 6.1” (156mm) long, of 52 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. It is right up there with the Montecristo No.2. However the flavors are very recognizable as H.Upmann, but the pointy shape of this cigar gives a smoke that is unique in this brand. Very clean taste, no harshness, and medium body give for a perfectly rounded smoke. A cigar that will become even more popular with time. A Pre-1960 release.

H.Upmann No.2 - 25 cigars [6.1" x 52]

Many compare the H.Upmann No. 2 to the Montecristo No. 2, they are similar in terms of strength, and it is hard to say which one is the stronger of the two.

  • • This cigar can hold its own against a Montecristo No. 2 or the Bolivar Belicosos Finos.
  • • A great example of how fantastic a great Habanos pyramid can be.

In order to enjoy the full potential of the H. Upmann No. 2, it should be aged for 5 to 8 years, as with the H. Upmann No. 1.

Dimensions:

Appearance:

It has a gorgeous oily and marbled wrapper.

Smoking Notes:

Before lighting up

The wrapper has some notes of leather and wood. The foot exhibits aromas of spice, espresso, wood and hay.

Burn/ Draw

The H.Upmann No.2 performs wonderfully, and it is a classic example that Cuba produces cigars with great construction. The draw is fantastic. The ash holds on to the cigar firmly and produces a lovely dark gray ash. The burn is razor sharp.

Initial third:

The cigar begins with some light spice, some pu-erh tea, like peat, some more wood and oak and coffee. It also delivers some creaminess.

Middle third:

The flavors in the second third really pick up, and it is here that it picks up a little more chocolate and pepper notes. There still exists some great tea, leather and oak notes to the cigar, and it has great finish of coffee and cream which are oh so enjoyable. The strength of the cigar remains at the medium level in which it was in the beginning.

Final third:

In the final third of the cigar shows a lot of flavors in great harmony. It is packed with cocoa, still the tea flavor, being very pleasant. It shows leather & spice which is wonderful. The finish tastes like coffee and cream. The cigar stays cool all the way to the end and on the last puff the cigar is still as flavorful as it had been and is still medium in body.

In summary, the flavors and aromas are first class all the way. What will really hit your taste buds are the chocolate and vanilla with the fantastic musky taste.

Smoking time:

60 - 90 Minutes

A pre-revolution classic. Box was beautiful from CT again. This cigar when aged well is amazing. Definitely more strength than a Montie no. 2 but has this beautiful wood/espresso taste to it. When the time is right I love to pull this stick out as it's truly one of the most consistent no. 2's I've had in any marca.

This cigar arrived with beautiful and silky wrapper and old world torpedo construction. I tried one right out of the box and it reminded me of old world Cubans of yesteryears. Nice strength, smooth draw and nice complex flavor. Different and richer taste from the Monty 2. Up there with the Partagas and Robaina torpedo as one of my favorites. Great value from Cigar Terminal
A bit more time needed , 10/22/2018

Box year of 2017 so these are still young. The construction varies greatly on the top row so I picked out a couple, decent looking, sticks to try before putting to rest. Green alfalfa & hay are predominantly forward while some mild coffee come in a bit later. The draw was great & flavor/strength were mild to mild/medium. The workings of a very nice cigar are here but for now, best to lay them down to rest for another 6mo before sampling. My guess is 2-3yrs & these will be rearing to go.
Better than Monte 2? , 6/13/2018

I think so: Montecristo No. 2 totally inconsistent, when they are good very good, when they are bad very bad. These baby's always the same. Try some.
