The San Cristóbal de La Habana 20 Aniversario, a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, is 6.3” (162mm) by 52 ring gauge, and comes in a humidor of 20 cigars. Its official vitola name is the Capuleto, of Double Robusto size, only used once before by Hababanos with the Romeo y Julieta De Luxe Edición Limitada of 2013. First announced in 2019 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the brand launched in 1999, the San Cristobal de La Habana 20 Aniversario only hit the shelves in late 2020, and is sold exclusively in La Casa del Habanos stores around the world. This is the third LCDH exclusive release from San Cristóbal, after the Mercaderes and the Murallas released in the mid 00’s and now discontinued. Habanos really stepped up their presentation with these cigars, as they come in a beautiful pirate’s treasure chest shaped humidor, with a mix of light and dark woods. The cigars themselves are looking amazing, massive in size but tightly packed and virtually flawless. In addition to the usual San Cristóbal band, there is also a second band, reserved to the “La Casa del Habano” exclusive cigars. The Saint Luis Rey Pura Vida is a 2020 Costa Rica Exclusive Regional Edition cigar, a 4.72” (120 mm) by 54 ring gauge, and comes in a box of 10 cigars. Only 6,000 boxes have been made in Cuba, so it is a cigar that will be hard to find very shortly. Similar in size as the previous Costa Rica and Nicaragua Regional Exclusive Habano in 2017 (the Ramon Allones Nuevo Mundo), it is of Magnum 54 vitola, a highly praised format in the region. Named Pura Vida after the popular local saying that is used to wish someone’s happiness at the end or at the beginning of a conversation. Entirely hand rolled with tobacco grown in the Vuelta Abajo region, this is a beautiful cigar, very comparable to the highly acclaimed and now discontinued Saint Luis Rey Serie A. It is celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2020 being the year of the Rat, which symbolizes wealth and surplus. The number 8 is considered a lucky number in the Chinese culture and appeals to the Chinese market with its beautiful red lacquered luxury box (red is the symbol of good fortune and joy), with some golden touches (a stylized golden rat), which color refers to wealth.
