Montecristo

Montecristo

Montecristo was created in 1935 by Alonso Menendez, shortly after he bought the Particulares factory in Havana, and takes its name from Alexandre Dumas's novel The Count of Monte Cristo, a favourite of the readers who read aloud to the rollers in Cuban factories. In 1936 Menendez went into partnership with Jose Manuel "Pepe" Garcia, and the following year the partners bought H. Upmann, where Montecristo was then made. Habanos describes the Montecristo No.4 as the best-selling Habano in the world.

We carry the numbered classics from No.1 to No.5, the Edmundo family (Petit, Edmundo, Double and Wide), the Petit No.2, Especial, Joyitas and Tubos, the Linea 1935 (Maltes, Dumas, Leyenda), the Open series, the Club, Mini and Short cigarillos, and a selection of limited editions.

The Montecristo sold in the United States is a separate Dominican brand; this page is the Cuban original.
