The box of H.Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha is a piece of art in itself, the cigars are placed in a beautiful lacquer finished black box, which comes in a velvet sleeve. The H.Upmann logo and the Gran Reserva seal, printed in gold on top of the box in addition to the gold band running across the black colored box give it a very elegant look that you would want to keep on display. The cigars themselves look amazing, they are of chocolate color with a reddish-brown hue, slightly oily but still soft to the touch. They seem to be well-packed all the way, with no apparent soft spots. Smoking Notes:

Before lighting up

At cold, there are some sweet citrus notes from the wrapper and from the foot, a mix of orange, milk chocolate, sweet spices, and other notes. Some hints of earth, mushroom and hay are also noticeable.

Burn/ Draw

On the cold draw of the Sir Winston Gran Reserva, the citrus is also present, there are also some notes of leather, cocoa and barnyard. The draw is easy enough, and we can also notice some hints of coffee, it is overall creamy and sweet.

Initial third:

The H.Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva starts off smoothly with the same aromas present on the cold draw, there is some orange zest, some earth, milk chocolate, a bit of coffee and some leather. There is a fair amount of sweetness on the palate and the overall feeling is creamy, the smoke is thick and creamy as well. Plenty of pepper on the finish with some beautiful sweet caramel notes which remain on the tongue. The draw is perfect, no issues to report on the construction as the cigar is smoking beautifully, the burn line has a nice straight line. The strength of the Sir Winston Gran Reserva is somewhere between mild and medium in the first third.

In the middle third, the Sir Winston Gran Reserva becomes even better, the flavor profile evolves slightly and creates a magnificent experience in the palate. The flavors work beautifully together and it is very creamy and mostly sweet. There is still lots of milk chocolate, ground coffee, earth, sweet hay, mushroom, cinnamon and other spices and some leather. The citrus has disappeared while some acid notes of berries are coming to the fore. On the retrohale, still plenty of sweet caramel and pepper. The draw remains spot-on while the burn is ok. The strength slightly increases towards the end of the middle third, hitting the medium mark.

Final third:

The Sir Winston Gran Reserva gets even better in the final third, All the flavors mixed up together in a beautiful blend. No aroma is more pronounced than the other however on the retrohale there is still lots of caramel and pepper, there are also some hints of mineral. The body increases slightly just over the medium mark. The burn remained amazing until the end and the ashes held very strongly. The cigar is very enjoyable until the end and it is with sadness that we have to let it go.

In summary as you would expect from any H Upmann, this is a cigar of very high quality, with a perfect construction and perfect burn. It is enjoyable right out of the box, it has beautiful Cuban flavors and can be smoked until the end.
