Cookie Policy
On this page
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are sent back on each later visit, which lets the site recognise your device, remember what you have done, and keep things like your shopping cart working.
We also use similar technologies such as browser local storage, which work in much the same way. Where this policy says "cookies", it covers those too.
2. Your consent
Cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site are set automatically. Without them the site cannot work: you could not stay signed in, keep items in your cart, or check out securely. These do not require your consent, and you cannot turn them off while using the site.
Nothing else is set until you agree. When you first visit, a notice asks for your consent. Until you accept it:
- no analytics cookies are placed on your device;
- Google Analytics is not loaded at all;
- our on-site search tracking does not run.
Accepting the notice records your choice in a cookie called user_allowed_save_cookie. Only then do the cookies in the analytics and preferences categories below begin to be set.
3. The categories we use
Strictly necessary
These keep the site working and secure. They hold your session together, remember your cart, protect forms against cross-site request forgery and automated abuse, let you complete a purchase, and record your cookie choice. They cannot be switched off.
Preferences
These remember choices and activity so the site behaves as you expect next time, such as the cigars you have recently viewed or compared.
Analytics
These tell us how the site is used, which pages and products are popular, and where visitors run into trouble, so we can improve things. We use two: Google Analytics for overall site measurement, and our own search engine's tracking, which uses what visitors view and buy to make search results and product listings more relevant.
4. The cookies we set

mage-cache-sessidmage-cache-storagemage-cache-storage-section-invalidation | Strictly necessary | Store your cart locally and refresh it when its contents change | End of session |
mage-messages | Strictly necessary | Holds confirmation and error messages so we can show them to you once | End of session |
product_data_storage | Strictly necessary | Holds product details locally so pages load faster | End of session |
_GRECAPTCHA | Strictly necessary | Set by Google reCAPTCHA to tell real visitors from automated bots and protect our forms from abuse. Stored by Google, not by us | Up to 6 months |

STVID | Analytics | Our search engine's tracking. Identifies a returning visitor, so search results improve over time | 1 year |
Our payment provider may also set cookies during checkout to process your payment securely and check for fraud. Those are strictly necessary to complete a purchase.
We review this list regularly. If you find a cookie on our site that is not described here, please tell us at privacy@cigarterminal.com.
5. Google reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA to protect our forms from automated abuse: fake account registrations, spam through the contact form, bulk newsletter signups, and attempts to guess passwords.
reCAPTCHA works by looking at how a visitor behaves on the page, rather than asking you to identify traffic lights. To do that it collects technical information about your device and browser and sends it to Google, which returns a score indicating how likely it is that you are a real person. Google may also store a cookie called _GRECAPTCHA on its own domain.
It runs on every page. Our newsletter signup form sits in the footer of every page, so reCAPTCHA loads throughout the site rather than only on the pages where you would expect a form.
It runs whether or not you accept the cookie notice. We treat it as strictly necessary, because without it our forms and customer accounts are open to attack. If you would rather not use a site protected by reCAPTCHA, you can contact us by telephone or email instead of using the forms.
Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
6. What we do not do
We want to be clear about what is not happening on this site:
- No advertising or retargeting cookies. We do not follow you around the internet with adverts for cigars you looked at.
- No advertising audiences. We do not feed your browsing into advertising audience lists.
- No selling or sharing. We do not sell or rent your data, and never have.
7. Changing your mind
You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting our cookies in your browser. Section 8 explains where to find that setting. Once the record of your choice is removed, analytics and preference cookies stop being set and you will be asked again on your next visit.
Withdrawing does not affect anything that happened while your consent was in place.
If you turn off preference cookies, the site still works but stops remembering the cigars you have recently viewed. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to keep items in your cart or place an order.
8. Browser controls
Every major browser lets you see the cookies you have, delete them, and block new ones. Look under Settings, then Privacy. Your browser's Help menu will point you to the exact place.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Cookie settings are stored per browser and per device, so a change on your laptop will not carry across to your phone.
