The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.1 is a smooth Corona Gorda, 5.6” (143mm) long, of 46 ring gauge, and comes in aluminum tubes in a 15 cigars box. It is a cigar of the next to perfect construction; the wrapper is smooth and slightly oily. It is smoking beautifully and the draw on this cigar is flawless. On top of that, the flavor profile of this stogie is incredible. Definitely a must-try for all the fans of Corona Gorda vitolas. There are flavors of wood, earth, hay and nuts. The Hoyo de San Juan from Hoyo de Monterrey is a tasty Habano, of Geniales format, of 54 ring gauge and 5.9” (150mm) long and comes in a 10 cigars cabinet. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, this big ring gauge cigar is reminiscent of the old brand, but with a modern twist that appeal to many big ring gauges aficionados. It sports a new band which reads “Serie Le Hoyo” but as any Hoyo de Monterrey, it is hand rolled only using tobacco from San Juan y Martínez district, where the brand was born in 1865. As other newer cigars, Habanos released this very short vitola (the shortest hand rolled cigar along with the H Upmann Half Corona), that fits perfectly the need for customers to enjoy a Cuban cigar in a short time. This vitola is totally hand made with long filler, using leaves from Vuelta Abajo, known for producing the best tobacco leaves in the world, in the region of Pinar del Rio. As expected from Montecristo, the Media Corona is perfectly rolled, a great draw and smokes beautifully. It is a bit more powerful than other Montecristos, because of its shorter length, so expect a body ranging from a medium to a medium-to-full.
