The Rafael Gonzalez Panetelas Extra is a hidden gem, a medium Short Panetela, 5’ (127mm) long, of 36 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. This cigar has been around since the 1930’s, and like other cigars from Rafael Gonzalez it is very smooth and mild, using only tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region. Medium body at its peak, its delivers mostly smooth aromas of chocolate, coffee and of amazing tobacco. There are also notes of almond, earth, wood, bread and some floral characteristics. Released in 2020, the Ramon Allones No.2 is a 2019 Edición Limitada, an elegant 5.5” (140mm) by 52 ring gauge, and comes in a luxury box of 10 cigars. Revealed at the XXI Festival del Habano in 2019, among the Montecristo Supremos and Quai d’Orsay Senadores, it was only released virtually in late 2020 for some selected guests. The guests had each received an individual gift bag including the cigar, a mini bottle of cognac, a cognac glass and three selected chocolates, which would beautifully pair with the Ramon Allones No.2. The cigars have all been hand rolled with tobacco leaves which have been aged for 2 to 5 years, instead of being rolled with regular tobacco leaves and then aged in their boxes, which gave more time to the flavors No.2 to develop and get richer. The flavors are typical Ramon Allones, reminiscent of the Specially Selected but with some nutiness and more sweetness than the regular production cigar. It is also more powerful than the Specially Selected, a medium to full body cigar and full flavored. The vitola used for the Ramon Allones No.2 is the Campanas, similar to the acclaimed Bolivar Belicosos Finos, which was used only once before for a Ramon Allones when they released the Ramon Allones Belicosos Finos exclusively for the UK market in 2005. Once released in stores, the Ramon Allones No.2 comes in a beautiful green lacquered box with a raised top, which is very different visually from other Edición Limitadas or any other Habanos releases and would magnificently complement the aficionado’s humidor. As many Edición Limitada, the No.2 will surely become a future classic in the next 2 to 5 years, try one out and you will know why. The Romeo y Julieta Linea de Oro Dianas, part of the new top tier segment of the brand, is a delicious Robusto Extra, which comes in a box of 20 cigars. The “Linea de Oro”, literally the “golden line” in Spanish is the pendant of the Maduro 5 line for the Cohiba, the top of the crop among the Romeo y Julieta brand, launched to celebrate the brand's 145th anniversary. Habanos released three totally new cigars, which are among the biggest ring gauge cigars available among Habanos, the Hidalgos, the Nobles and Dianas. The Dianas vitola is called a Damas, 52 ring gauge by 5 ¾ inches and, as the other two, comes in a refined high lacquered box of 20 cigars. One can right away see that these cigars are different from the regular production line, as the box is painted in a very elegant red and gold colors, adorned with an embossed golden medallion on the lid, representing the classic balcony scene. Each cigar comes with a specific Linea de Oro band with the name of the cigar as well as a secondary golden band at the foot. The Hidalgos, Nobles and Dianas are all stronger than the regular Romeo y Julieta cigars, their strength around medium to full. The main flavors of the Dianas are of wood, earth and leather while the whole smoke is very creamy.

The H.Upmann Connossieur No.2 is a 2020 release, a medium-full bodied 5.25” (134 mm) by 51, and comes in a box of 25 cigars. It is the only Habanos cigar which has a ring gauge of 51. The factory name is known as Bohemios in Cuba and it was first presented in Germany in late 2020. Released only in few central European countries, this cigar will definitely please all amateurs of the other Connossieur from the marca H.Upmann. Similar in tastes and body as the other Connossieurs, its size makes it sit between the Connoisseur No.1 and the Connossieur A. The Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is a rich and tasty medium Habanos of Grand Corona format, 5.6” (143mm) long, of 46 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. The Juan Lopez brand is one the oldest founded in Cuba, in 1876. Released in 1990s, it is fully hand-made with Vuelta Abajo filler leaves. It can be sometimes hard to find, as the production can be interrupted at times, due to high quality standards. It is a Corona Gorda format, an extraordinary compromise between a Churchill, a Hermoso No.4 and a Corona. It is full of flavors; the aromas are well balanced between woodsy, earthy, sweet and peppery aromas and some creaminess to bind it all. The texture of the Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 is amazing, generates lots of creamy smoke and an amazing taste. It can be both enjoyed young and fresh or with some more age and would delight both the beginner and the cigar aficionado. In short, a very impressive smoke by a lesson-known Cuban brand.
