Established in the La Flor de Tabacas de Partagás (now renamed “Francisco Pérez Germán”) in Havana in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagás y Ravelo who already had a long history of manufacturing cigars thanks to its plantation located in the best parts of the Vuelta Abajo region, the premium tobacco growing area. Having earned several gold medals at several international exhibitions in the late 19th century, Partagás became increasingly popular. Upon the death of Don Jaime, the brand was transferred to Cifuentes y Cia, which continued growing the company until the nationalization of the factory, being the second most exported brand out of Cuba. There is also a Dominican Partagas cigar brand that was started after the Cuban revolution. However, the original brand is Cuban Partagas that is mentioned here.
Up until today, Partagás is still one of the best-selling Cuban brand, only behind Montecristo with the famous cigars such as the Partagás Serie D No.4, the Partagás Serie P No.2, the Partagás Mille Fleurs and the Partagás Serie E No.2. Partagás cigars are known to be powerful and with rich flavors, and thanks to its wide variety of sizes and shapes, there is surely one that will catch your attention.

The Partagas 8-9-8 is a strong and delicate medium-full Lonsdale, 6.7” (170mm) long, of 43 ring gauge, and comes in a varnished cabinet of 25 cigars. This Partagas is named after the number of Habanos placed on each layer of the cabinet, there are 8 cigars on the top and bottom row and 9 in the middle one. This is a great cigar that is medium-to-full body, which will better suit a Cuban cigar aficionado rather than a newcomer to Habanos. Thanks to its almost perfect construction, it offers an amazing draw, and burns beautifully throughout the entire cigar, while a luxurious ash builds up at the foot. The 8-9-8 provides typical Partagas flavors, lots of charred aromas, musty earth, wood, cocoa, leather. These are strong flavors, as expected, mixed with some fruity notes, some nuts, some pepper, and some Asian spice. The Partagas Presidentes is a beautiful and strong figurado, of Taco format, 47 ring gauge, 6.2” (158mm) long and comes in a box of 25 cigars. This figurado from Partagas is not very well known. This cigar is one of the rare competitors of the Cuabas. From its odd dimensions, close to a Julieta (same gauge but slightly shorter), it seems to be of strong flavor, and it is. The Partagas Seleccion Privada 2014 is a rich medium-full bodied Double Robusto, 6.3” (160mm) long, of 50 ring gauge, and comes in a box of 10 cigars. This new release comes with a Seleccion Privada golden ribbon wrapped around the 10 cigars and a Limited Edition 2014 band around each cigar. It is reminiscent of the Partagas Serie D No.4, maybe a bit stronger than it; a true full body cigar. The tobacco used is from the Vuelta Abajo and is aged at least two years. It is a beautiful cigar, with a flawless construction, perfect draw and a sharp burn line throughout the whole cigar. There is a lot of wood, rich coffee and a beautiful floral quality to it. Partagas Serie D No.6 - 20 cigars

The Partagas Serie D No.6 is a complex Habano, a medium-full Petit Robusto, 3.5” (90mm) long, of 50 ring gauge, and comes in a box of 20 cigars. Released at the 2014 Habanos Festival, they are the shortest cigar in the Partagas line. Very similar to the Partagas Serie D No.4 or to the D No.5, they share the same ring gauge. It is a powerful short smoke, however not as strong as the No. 4, which has the typical Partagas flavors, such as coffee, wood, vanilla, rich and strong tobacco and a good zing of pepper at times. Very good construction on this short cigar, this is a go-to cigar for a fan of the Partagas Serie D No.4 and when time is of the essence, especially in the winter.
