It is celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2021 being the year of the Ox, which brings prosperity and wellness. The number 8 is considered a lucky number in the Chinese culture and it is pronounced ‘Fa’ which can be translated to ‘well off’ and ‘getting rich in a short time’. Presented virtually by the Habanos distributor for the Southeast Asia region, the 18 cigars come in an elegant enameled red and gold box, with the words “Year of the Ox” printed on the lid. The cigar is a Grand Corona, or more precisely a vitola de galera called Hermosos No. 1, which was previously used for the Montecristo Dantés Edición Limitada 2016, the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No. 1 Edición Limitada 2003 and a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, the San Cristobal Mercaderes. The Hoyo de Monterrey Hoyo Du Prince is a sweet and mild Corona, 5.1” (130mm) long, of 40 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. The Le Hoyo Series was created apart from the Hoyo de Monterrey line, this explains the difference in names and shapes of the cigars. The Le Hoyo cigars are thinner and they are slightly stronger than the regular Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Prince hovers around a mild to medium, which main aromas are of wood, earth and leather. There is a lot of sweetness in the aromas, lots of creaminess, some honey, some nuts, and some fruit notes also add to the richness. The spices are also always present, but never too strongly, just a tingle on the lips. Overall a mild and rich cigar, perfect for a morning cigar. Pretty affordable. The Hoyo du Maire is part of Le Hoyo Series and is of Small Panetela/Entreactos format, 30 ring gauge and 3.9 inches (100mm) in length. This cigar is part of the Le Hoyo series, a special series made for a Swiss distributor in the years 1940's and, as the cigars from this series, is pretty different than other Hoyo de Monterrey. The Hoyo du Maire, is a medium to full flavored cigar, with tobacco and wood as main flavors. There are also lots of toasted aromas, and notes of leather, cream and a bit of tea notes. Despite being a pretty short smoke, not more than half an hour, but still manages to provide the typical Cuban "twang" with a lot of complexity, while never being over powerful. The Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No.4 Anejados is of Corona Extra format, 48 ring gauge and 5 inches (127mm) in length This cigar was released in late 2015 along with the Partagas Coronas Gordas Anejados as special editions that are available in very limited quantities. The particularity of these cigars is that they have been produced 5 to 8 years ago and then aged in their original cedar boxes. These cigars are incredibly mild and creamy due to the aging process and develop an intense woody flavor thanks to cedar box that contains the Hermosos No.4. These are rather mild cigars, with a body evolving from mild to medium, which makes them the perfect daily smoke. Nonetheless, they are also pretty complex cigars, in addition to woody flavors, there are also notes of pepper, leather and of bittersweet chocolate. Each box has been individually box opened and each stick has been checked before being banded with an additional Aged Habanos (Anejados) band. This is why you can find under each box the original stamp recording the date and factory where they have been rolled 8 years ago plus an additional “Revisado” (checked) stamp. En savoir plus

This smoke packs all the typical Hoyo de Monterrey’s flavours into a small yet exclusive cigar, that is comparable to the 2012 Limited Editions, but which is cheaper than these. The construction is superb, it is fully handmade, its high level of quality is on par with any cigar out of La Casa del Habanos. On the flavor profile, it is rather light in taste yet shows a great level of complexity and control of aromas.
