Quick Overview

The H.Upmann Petit Corona is a delicious mild Mareva, with plenty of flavors, 5" (129mm) long, of 42 ring gauge, and comes in a 25 cigars box. It is for sure one of the best Mareva out from Cuba, and definitely one of the strongest, along with the Montecristo No. 4. The aromas of this Petit Coronas are somewhat close to the Upmann No. 4, which is exactly the same format, but they may vary on the batch. It has a nice Colorado wrapper and a deep flavor of wood.

The construction of this H. Upmann Petit Coronas is amazingly impeccable. It has a nice slow and even burn that will stay lit for a long time even when put down.

  • • Delicious earth, cocoa and cedar aromas and flavors.
  • • Round and medium full on the palate.

The perfect cigar for a smoker which wants to avoid the full strength of a large cigar and yet is looking for lots of flavor.

Smoking Notes:

Before lighting up

It has that Cuban barnyard smell mixed in with a little cedar.

Burn/ Draw

The draw is perfect, it burns straight, the ash holds well, and it does not burn hot or swell at any point.

Initial third:

This cigar was smooth upon lighting with flavors of earthiness and subtle spiciness.

Middle third:

You begin to detect caramel flavors in the smoke, which intensifies until the last third.

Final third:

The complexity of flavors in this petit corona was impressive and the taste remained consistent throughout the smoke.

In summary, it does a nice job of packing big cigar flavor in a small package.

Smoking time:

60 - 90 Minutes

Time in you Humidor is your friend ! ! , 10/2/2017
By Douglas
This is a follow-up to my previous review as I have finished the box of 25. The positive is that the cigar flavor and taste has notably improved even after only 4-months in a humidor. A negative would be that several of the cigars burned unevenly and 2 or 3 were nearly plugged. I have now smoked two boxes of Cuban cigars and my initial reaction is that there is inconsistency in the rolling. For every 4 or 5 cigars with a nice-smooth-even draw and burn you are likely to get 1 that is less than satisfactory.
This rarely happens with higher-end Dominican or Nicaraguan brands.
Pleasant Smoke ! , 5/4/2017

This cigar was smoked fresh out of the box upon arrival. The bottom of the box had a factory code of MEG, a date code of Oct 15, and the inscription Totalmente a Mano, meaning "totally by hand" or hand-made. It was punched and had good draw, burn and ash for a full 70 minutes. The strength began mild plus with rather uneventful flavors in the first third. The volume of smoke and the strength increased to medium during the remaining 2/3rds and, other than tobacco, there were still no discernible or outstanding flavors. While smokable now, it is said that the flavor(s) will blossom with aging so time in my humidor will tell.

Not my ideal size, I am more of a Robusto man - but if you're pushed for time (maybe winter has struck and you can't stand the cold) then this is the next best thing. Excellent peppery flavour, that is bigger than it's stature. Every self respecting cigar smoker needs some of these in his/her humidor for the occasion where a quick smoke is required.

They need age to allow the leather to start changing to cream, but one of the most balanced petit coronas.

Wanted to try this Petit Corona to find out if JFK knew what he was talking about they are a little on the mild side and never compare this cigar to the Cohiba Siglo II but all in all it was a pleasantly surprising smoke and one that may get better with age.
