The nice chocolate wrapper is very oily to the touch and has an excellent sheen in the light. Firmly packed. The foot looks well bunched.

Smoking Notes:

Before lighting up

The cigar has aromas of oak, hay, coffee and earth. With the cold draw we get those flavors of coffee, cocoa, cream, hay and oak as well. There is a mild barnyard aroma to the wrapper. Simply lovely smell.

Burn/ Draw

The construction is just perfect - the ash stays on for 3 inches. The draw was very slightly firm, and produces plenty of smoke.

Initial third:

The first third greets you with typical Montecristo flavors. The dominant flavors are of cocoa, coffee; some nice smoothness is also there along with cedar and earthy notes. We also detect some nuts, toast and light spices in the first third. Those classic Montecristo flavors are at their peak with the No.2 vitola. The burn line is clear and slightly wavy, a nice creamy smoke is surrounding you in the initial third while the cigar is medium in strength for now.

Middle third:

The second third of the cigar is consistent with the first third. Still the flavors of chocolate, espresso, nuts, cream and leather. The smoothness is well balanced with some light spices and woods flavors by the end of the second third.

Final third:

The final third is wonderful. The smoke produced by the Montecristo No.2 is now full of aromas; the burn line is becoming more upright and the ash has a nice dark gray color. The flavors are still fairly similar to the first two thirds except that they are now more pronounced. This cigar delivers until the nub as some woody, leathery and spicy aromas are here to make sure you are still paying attention to it. The Montecristo No.2 is never overwhelming, and stays true to its medium body in strength.

In summary, this cigar is tough to beat. Simply the best!

Smoking time:

90 - 105 Minutes

Great, Legendary but..... , 10/23/2020

I love these and always will. Maybe stating the obvious but I have seen some inconsistency in terms of burn. To be expected with the most popular cigar out of Cuba. Taste is tremendous. However, I find myself rowing a boat too often on some. Corrections to the burn can be ‘work’ depending on the quality of the box it’s just the way it is sometimes. This is to be expected given how mass produced these are, But overall it’s a staple and It’s greatness cannot be denied. 4 stars but when they burn right they are 5.

My box just in is bananas good. There isn’t much to said about this legendary smoke that hasn’t been already. My box was nothing short of spectacular. Within just 4 days in the humidor they draw like a dream and of course will only get better. Thank you Cigar Terminal! Simply wonderful.

Few of the cigars had mold/plume, (what ever you want to call it) upon arrival, but only 1 had it bad enough to discard but the others I was able to just brush off. Seemed like they were a little too humidified. I let the box sit in my humidor for 2 weeks. However the folks at Cigar Terminal did take care of me. I tried 2 and both were consistent on flavor but the burn was uneven for both. I would recommend having them inspect the box before having them shipped to ensure quality.
